Around the NFL '20: Week 1

 

As the NFL 2020 season finally opened amid a year with many challenges that led many of us to wonder if there would even be a football season this year, week one is finally over. This season kicked off with the season opener on Thursday night between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans. The Chiefs were World Champs of last season. The World Champs were soon old news heading into the offseason as Tom Brady, the 20-year vet of New England Patriots, announced on his social media that he would, in fact, not be returning to Foxborough team. Even more surprising news occurred as former Patriots' tight end, Rob Gronkowski, came out of retirement to play with the former QB in Tampa Bay.

Naturally with the duo starting fresh in a new city with a new team, all eyes seemed to be on Tom Brady, Gronkowski and the Buccaneers as Sunday rolled around. We all got to see a side of Brady that Patriots' fans really didn't see that much of. Of course, Tampa scored a touchdown in the opening drive but that good feeling didn't last as Brady threw two interceptions against the Saints. It was interesting to see how the Buccaneers' head coach, Bruce Arians, reacted to the loss and to Brady's first performance with the team. Unlike Brady's former coach's press conference ways, Belichick never threw any particular player under the bus like Arians. He always addresses all mistakes as a "team" effort and the improvements that the team need to make all around. Tampa Bay lost to Drew Brees and the Saints 23-34.

Not only were there debuts in Tampa Bay but New England had a change at QB with the signing of former Carolina Panther, Cam Newton. I have to admit that I was not very thrilled with this signing, however while New England's training camp went on, he grew on me.

For week one, New England faced off with the Miami Dolphins. In his Patriots' debut, Newton ran in two of the three touchdowns that the Patriots' scored for 75 yards. Newton completed 15 out of 19 attempts for 155 yards. New England's defense was on fire as the Dolphins' QB, Ryan Fitzpatrick, threw three interceptions. Unfortunately, New England were not able to score off of those interceptions. New England won 21-11.

It's interesting to see how this season is going to play out with Newton and the Patriots and Brady/Gronkowski with the Buccaneers.

TB12 to TB

Last week we finally found out where Tom Brady was going to call home and that place is Tampa Bay. In all honesty, it came as a bit of a surprise to me. I'm not at all surprised that he left New England. I knew that he was going to leave this offseason but I never imagined that Tampa Bay was in the mix. When I did my research for my last post on where he was going to end up, Tampa wasn't even in the conversation. They didn't even end up in the conversation until about a week or two leading up to free agency.

My feelings towards this really shouldn't surprise anyone. I'm not at all upset about this move. I'm extremely happy for Brady and completely respect the man. He is doing everything for his family and himself and I completely admire that. After years of taking paycuts so that other players could be paid, Brady deserves to be paid very well. Signing with Tampa Bay, he's getting just that. The quarterback signed a 2-year contract worth $50 million is FULLY GUARANTEED. That is less than what he was offered last year with New England. The contract also has a no tag or no trade guideline to it meaning he cannot be tagged or traded obviously. This clause is huge for Brady. This means that unless he retires within that two years, Brady WILL remain a Buccaneer. When Brady and New England restructured his contract last season, Brady was adamant that they add that in his contract then as well so that he could become an unrestricted free agent in the 2020 free agency so at the end of the 2021 season he can then do the same.

The question now is will I root for Brady as a Buccaneer and the Patriots like many did for the Colts and Manning? No. I wish the best for Brady always in his future as a football player and I love what he has done for New England football. However, I did not become a Patriots fan because of Brady. I am a Patriots' fan first and foremost. Win or lose, I will always root for New England. New England can have a 0-16 season and I will still be a diehard fan. Hell, I would still get new tattoos if they lost like that but I cannot just root for two different teams. TB12 is tattooed on my body and I will always root for him to succeed but that chapter has ended.

To the Patriots' fans that are calling Brady a traitor for moving on and signing with a new team: how can you look at yourselves in the mirror? He is doing what is best for himself and his family. Football is a game and a sport. This is a job to him. This isn't something that he does to please you. Get over yourselves and get the fuck over it. Life goes on. Brady left. We all knew this day was coming and guess what?! Belichick is going to leave one day too and there is not a goddamn thing you can do about it.

Where, Oh Where Will Tommy Boy Go?

It's about to be that time of year where some football fans love it while others hate it, but whichever side that you stand on, one thing is clear--free agency is near! As a Patriots' fan, each year of free agency and the offseason is a roller coaster, at least for me anyways. Some years, the free agency pickups were so fantastic and made me so excited for the season to start only for other years it being horrible. With free agency also comes having to say goodbye to some of your favorite team players as they move on to other career opportunities with new teams making it heartbreaking for us fans. However, none of that has stopped teams, especially New England from reaching the big game although some could argue that some free agency moves might have prevented it. Don't ask me for an example because I can't give you one.

This free agency is definitely going to be one to watch. I say this because for twenty years now, Tom Brady has called Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA home. Now, he is a free agent and it's never been more clear that his chance to spread his wings while he's writing the last half of his football playing chapters is now. The question on everyone who cares' mind is where will the GQ cover man land? Will Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, and the rest of the New England organization re-sign the GOAT? Or will he land elsewhere?

Let's take a look at Tom's landing spots and why I think he could potentially sign there.

New England. This one you would think would be a no-brainer, however, it is the free agency, Tom Brady, and Bill Belichick. Robert Kraft has said repeatedly that he doesn't want his favorite quarterback to go anywhere and that he'd do anything that he could to keep the man around. Brady loves him some Robert Kraft, regardless of the ridiculous Prostitution sting scandal in Florida that surprisingly went away. Even though Brady and Belichick don't necessarily seem to be as close nowadays as they once were, Belichick and Brady both have to know that without the Patriot Way and each other, it's a game of roquette. Every party involved here knows that the man deserves to be paid and he deserves to be paid well. For years on end, he has continually taken paycut after paycut just so that he can continually have some of the best of the best to throw to because that's the type of guy that he is. He loves winning and he loves Patriots Nation. But it is time though that he gets paid what he deserves regardless of the other talent on the roster.

Tennessee. This one is said to be one of the top three landing spots for the once Uggs spokesman. Take a look at the Titans right now. They are coming off of a pretty hot season, having made the playoffs and even knocking out New England in the Wildcard round. Like, what?! The Titans have Ryan Tannehill at quarterback right now. Tennessee has the option that they could franchise Tannehill and remove Brady from the equation and cross your fingers that Tannehill plays like he did this past season, not use the franchise tag on Tannehill and go after the GOAT himself with the possibility of possibly losing Ryan and not signing Brady? The Titans have Mike Vrabel as head coach. Brady loves to be able to collaborate with his personnel about game planning. Being able to do that is going to be a key factor in his choice. Vrabel and Brady are said to be good pals so could that potentially work as a boss/employee type of situation? The receivers for the Titans are solid, including the tight ends. The entire offensive line right now isn't all that bad of a prospect for Brady.

Las Vegas. Ugh. This one I truly hope does not come to fruition because I, for one, cannot stand the Raiders, Jon Gruden, the owner and his weird-shaped puffy orange shape with his bad haircut, or Derek Carr. But unfortunately, there are rumors spreading about this one. The first time I even saw this as a potential landing spot for my favorite quarterback was a week or two ago. I saw on Instagram where Derek Carr had been asked by reporters about the possibility of Tom Brady joining the Raiders and his response was that the team needed a backup. He clearly doesn't understand that HE, himself, would be the one that would become the backup, not Brady. No way in hell do you bench Tom motherfucking Brady. You just don't do that. You put players like Derek Carr on the bench. Now it is said that the Raiders are considering to put in a 2-year/$60 million contract once free agency begins. Whether they do or not is beyond me. This would not be a good landing spot for Brady. The location would be great because he could open up a TB12 store and get more people introduced to the TB12 method but he could do so without actually playing for this horrible team.

Indianapolis. Now, this isn't really a top potential landing spot for Tom Brady but with me living in Indiana, I've heard it a time or two since the Super Bowl (which I didn't watch because obviously). Hell-to-the-mother-fucking-N-O do I ever want this move to happen. The first reason is because Colts fans do not know how to appreciate good talent when they get it. Who the hell boos a man who has put so much time, energy and effort into trying to be the best quarterback that they can be all because they decide to put their health and family first?! Like who the fuck does that honestly? I mean, I would love to be able to go to all of the home games I possibly could (still wearing my NEW ENGLAND Tom Brady jerseys) and watch him live every Sunday while still rooting for my New England boys. But no. All of the shit talking that every single Colts' fan has ever done would be for what? Nothing because all they do is run their mouth.

Los Angeles. I feel like that is really enough said right there. The Chargers' head coach has stated that a mobile quarterback is basically where it's at when it comes to the future of the league. Brady is a mobile quarterback. He knows how to move on the field to get things done. Philip Rivers is not quite what you would call a mobile quarterback and I honestly think Rivers is mediocre at best. Rivers' contract is actually up so he also becomes a free agent this offseason as Mr. Philip Rivers has moved his entire family to Florida. Whether or not he is re-signed by the Chargers, I got off topic there a little bit but whatever. Without looking at the personnel and roster of the chargers, Los Angeles as a whole would be perfect for the Bradys to spread the roots. And the Chargers are having their stadium built so he'd get to play in a brand new stadium.

When it's all said and done, Tom Brady is going to sign with whoever the hell he wants to sign with. He honestly could have it planned to re-sign with New England but just wants to know how much money he could truly get. The only way to do that is to test out the free agency.

Whirlwind Start for 2019-2020!

Here we go guys!! The 2019-2020 NFL season has officially begun. Players are starting to be added to the IR and released, while others are being surprisingly benched. We're headed into week 3 so it's not too big of a surprise to see the standings where they're at right now but some of them could have a little bit of a shock value. So before getting much farther, let's talk about the standings of the teams in the league.

AFC EAST: NE 2-0, Buffalo 2-0, NYJ 0-2, Miami 0-2
AFC NORTH: Baltimore 2-0, Cleveland 1-1, Cincinnati 0-2, Pittsburgh 0-2
AFC SOUTH: Houston 1-1, Indianapolis 1-1, Jacksonville 1-2, Tennessee 1-2
AFC WEST: KC 2-0, Oakland 1-1, LAC 1-1, Denver 0-2

NFC EAST: Dallas 2-0, Philadelphia 1-1, Washington 0-2, NYG 0-2
NFC NORTH: GB 2-0, Detroit 1-0-1, Minnesota 1-1, Chicago 1-1
NFC SOUTH: TB 1-1, Atlanta 1-1, NO 1-1, Carolina 0-2

So as you can see, there are several teams that are still undefeated and a few teams that are still winless. Is this the time to start saying each undefeated team is going to the Super Bowl? Not necessarily. If I wasn't a New England Patriots' fan already, I would be this year because damn, they are playing like champs again this season if you haven't caught a game yet so far by holding their opponents to 3 points. However, one of the teams was the Miami Dolphins so them beating the South Beach team 43 to 0 was really no surprise here. Tom Brady actually had wide receiver Antonio Brown as a receiver for that game, who managed a 20-yard touchdown. Brown was released this past Friday. It's been speculated that he was in the game plan for this coming up game against the New York Jets but when it comes to the New England Patriots and the Patriots Way, if you don't hold up to your end of the bargain and do things the Patriots Way, it doesn't really matter how great of a player you truly are, you'll be cut faster than your head can spin. Belichick doesn't need anybody and he's made that clear numerous times. Brady has so many weapons that without Brown, New England is still going to be just fine. He needs to get his damn legal mess in order before even considering being a player again in all honesty. It's hard to respect a player when they're life is such a mess and I know that these allegations are most likely false. I digress.

With the Antonio Brown mess already mentioned, let's discuss the other issues of the other teams. Pittsburgh Steelers are now without Rapistberger as he is out for the season. I think it's time his ass just hangs it up and retires because I seriously feel like he is getting injured about every other season it seems like. New Orleans are having to be without their starting quarterback for at least six weeks as well, as Drew Brees had to undergo surgery. The New York Giants have decided to bench Eli Manning for week 3, which is kind of sad but in all honesty, the man does suck as of the past couple of seasons but he does have 2 SB rings that he made off of wins from NE so he can suck it. Carolina Panthers have also decided to bench their fashionista Cam Newton as well this week. He'll probably be too damn busy trying to figure out what to wear to the stadium. That's actually why he sucks so damn bad lately is because he's gotten too into fashion or into sucking dick instead of throwing the football around like he should be doing.

Last season was a season for sure! I had a lot of distractions again last season but it was of a different sort. I started training for pro-wrestling in April of 2018 but was soon dealing with a neck injury in the months of late August-early September. Regardless of my injury, I was still so deeply involved and obsessed with wrestling that that took precedent over everything and well, after having neck surgery on May 6th, I am beyond ready to get my focus back to my one true passion: New England Patriots football.

Let's talk about Rob Gronkowski's retirement. I am not excited about this whatsoever. It's a move that I think truly and utterly sucks but it's honestly the best thing for him to do. With all of his injuries that he has suffered from high school, college to the NFL, it's probably a good idea that he did so now before he suffered an injury that he couldn't recover from. I have heard rumors that New England officials are thinking that there is still a chance that Rob could come out of retirement for one more season this year even though he says he is not, but you never truly know. So we shall see, won't we?!

Speaking of retirements, let's discuss Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Andrew Luck going into retirement at the beginning of the season, shall we?! Now, we all know that I am not a Colts fan and that I never will be. However, I will say that the way Luck was treated when news broke of his retirement was absolutely wrong and embarrassing. Booing the man because he decided to take the time that he can to spend with his wife and his family was so uncalled for. Who the hell are all of you to do any of that shit? You're simply fans of the sport who have no idea what the players are dealing with in their everyday lives, the same way that I have no idea what is going on either but I still have the DECENCY to respect the players though and their decisions. When Gronkowski decided to retire, it wasn't until after Luck made his announcement that Gronk let it be known that his decision had a lot to do with his health and how in pain he felt throughout the past season. Unlike Luck, Gronkowski didn't have a child on the way so Gronkowski finished out the season but I'm thinking that might've had a little bit to do with why Luck didn't play the season, plus he was already dealing with an issue or two. So why hate and boo the man because he's putting himself, his health, and his family first? We all know that that is the same damn decision that you all would make if it was you in that position. You can try to deny it but why bother.

I will say that I'm excited to watch Jacoby Brissett as the starting quarterback for the Colts just becasue he was drafted by New England and he was traded to the Colts by New England. He started learning plays from the best quarterback in the NFL and I highly think that he's going to be something good in the NFL if given the chance. I mean, he did negotiate his new contract with the Colts worth 30 million by himself with no agent so that's saying something.

2018 AFC Champs

I know what you’re all thinking before I even type it all out. “This bitch is getting ready to apologize for not posting in awhile and say she’s been really busy during the regular season and all the other nonsense bullshit excuses. Blah, blah, blah.” You’d be right, however, all I’d be lying. I really haven’t been that busy to the point of not being able to make a post, I’ve just honestly been too damn lazy to. Wow, that sounds horrible but at least I’m honest.

Anyways, we are now 7 days away from Super Bowl LIII folks. This matchup is going to be a good one if I may say so myself. The Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots travel on down to Atlanta to battle it out for the Lombardi trophy on February 3rd. Personally, I see my boys hoisting that trophy in the air at the end of that game but I would say that though.

Many speculate that this could be Brady’s last game if he wins another ring, making his Super Bowl ring title five, but I don’t necessarily think so. I don’t think he’ll go out like Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos’ quarterback Peyton Manning did after winning Super Bowl L. Tom Brady is aging like a very fine wine and seems to be improving with his age. His stats are ridiculous and say what you want about that man but I mean, c’mon now. He’s 41 years old and playing like a much younger player. He’s still having too much fun playing and has too much fire and passion coursing through his veins to call it quits just yet. He loves proving his haters and doubters wrong week in and week out. He thrives on that and he’s just got so much left in him that I think he’ll at least try to play for one or two more years at least.

Now, I’m not going to analyze the Kansas City or Chargers game because we all watched those games but I will say that the KC game was super intense for me. I actually was curious to see how I am during football games so I recorded little snippets of myself during the last 3 minutes of the Kansas City game. I’m going to try to upload them on here so you all can get an idea of how ridiculous I am. I see why I’m single. 😂.

I will say that I’m anxious for the draft because New England has twelve picks between the first three rounds so it’ll be interesting to see how those picks are used. But the focus right now, ON TO THE SUPER BOWL BABY!!! Third year in the row! We win, I’m getting my TENTH New England Patriots tattoo.

Week 3 Disaster

I have almost no words to describe last night’s game. It was a complete disaster. Between the horrible coaching, bad play calls, and Dorsett not being able to catch one damn ball, it’s no surprise that New England lost. Since last season, Belichick truly has seemed like he doesn’t give a shit about any of this. With benching Malcolm Butler during the Super Bowl, the trading of all of our good players during the offseason, to these horrible play calling, the dude is pissing off the fans and making us wonder if he even wants to be there anymore. In all honesty, I don’t care if he was to retire. He’s not doing shit for us at the moment. Why do you have them keep handing the ball to Sony Michel when that was obviously not working? Like Brady said in his post-game conference, James White needs to be the one that’s getting those plays because he’s making shit happen. Not Michel. Not Dorsett. Gronkowski and White are the only two who seemed to make shit happen last night. Is Belichick trying to piss off Brady so he’ll retire because honestly that’s what it seems like. And if so, then fuck you dude. 

Congrats on the win for LeGarrette Blount but Matt Patricia can go suck a dick. 

Yesterday, 49ers fans received some devastating news yesterday. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL. MRI was scheduled for today and he is most likely out for the season. That’s a huge blow to the team and news I hated seeing. I love Jimmy G and I hope that he heals fast and everything works out for him during the process.  Richard Sherman will also be expected to miss several weeks due to a calf strain.  

In other news, Leveon Bell’s agent found a loophole in Bell’s contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Leveon Bell legally changed his name making him a free agent and able to sign with any team now. Oh man! I’m so glad I am not a Steelers fan because you have Antonio Brown who is unhappy and Bell who legally changed his name so he didn’t have to play for the team. That’s sad. 

Congrats to the Browns on their first win this week as well against the New York Jets. Long time coming right?! Like it’s been what, 635 games since a win or something like that? I don’t know, I don’t follow Cleveland so I don’t pay attention to their stats. 

Here is to a better week coming hopefully for all teams, especially New England. Just one more game until my gorgeous and talented man, Julian Edelman is back on the field where he belongs. Until then, I’m out.
