Around the NFL: Week 1

Where to even begin? Some huge surprises definitely shocked football fans this week. Hold onto your seat because we're about to look back to this whirlwind week in football.

Thursday night, Superbowl XLVII champs traveled to Denver to open the season against Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Manning threw for 7 touchdowns tying the record. No one has come close to this record in 44 years. My favorite part of this game was watching Welker drop that pass. Julius Thomas and Demaryius Thomas had two touchdowns a piece. Manning completed 27 out of 42 passes for 462 yards. Flacco on the otherhand was just proving my point that he does not deserve his 120 million dollar contract. He completed 34 out of 62 passes for 362 yards. He threw for 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Sewer rat himself, Terrell Suggs predicts a playoff rematch with the Ravens and the Broncos in January. A game I'm sure Denver will win again. What cracks me up is the fact that ever since this Ravens' loss, the fans of Baltimore have quieted. Nice you realize your team sucks.

Flacco-ing
Everybody knows the drama-infested offseason New England has had this year. First with former tight-end Aaron Hernandez be released after being arrested for first degree murder, then with Wes Welker signing with the Broncos. Dealing with several injuries, this season is going to be very unpredictable for the Patriots. We all need to remember that we have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick at the helm of this. Anything is possible. But on to the game against the Bills. This game was a close one. Patriots pulled out a win luckily after Gostkowski pulled off a 35-yard field goal with only 5 seconds left. It was a 23-21 win in Buffalo. This is the 10th straight season opening win for New England. Stevan Ridley was benched before the second half for producing not one but two fumbles early on in the game. Former Ram player, Danny Amendola, was questionable leading into week one with talks of a groin injury. It was very apparent that he re-injured this during the first half and will not play Thursday night against the Jets. Thankfully Julian Edelman was on top of his game with 2 touchdowns. Shane Vereen also had surgery Monday on his wrist after breaking a small bone. He is on the IR until at least week 11. Bills rookie quarterback, EJ Manuel should have known that he didn't stand a chance beating Tom Brady in his first NFL regular season game. I have to give credit where its due and Manuel definitely impressed me with this being his rookie year. Manuel completed 18 out of 27 passes for 150 yards. He threw for 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. King Brady completed 29 out of 52 passes for 288 yards. Brady threw for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

Bills fans arriving this past Sunday to the Pats vs Bills game
Sunday night brought a little bit of a surprise to the Sunday night game. Eli and his Giants traveled to Dallas to take on Homo Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. New York received the ball to open the game, however, within seconds, Dallas had the ball. The game clinching touchdown was brought on by Brandon Carr. Carr returned an interception for 49 yards. Jason Witten and Romo teamed up with two scoring passes while Manning threw three touchdown passes to Victor Cruz placing them in the realm of making a comeback. Tony Romo completed 36 out of 49 passes for 263 yards. He threw for 2 touchdowns and only 1 interception. "Eli"te Eli, no way in hell he's elite, completed 27 out of 42 passes for 450 yards. 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions later, Giants lose to the Cowboys 31-36.

Defeated Eli "manning-ing"
You all know by now what a big RG3 fan I am so you should know how disappointed I was to see the Redskins fall to Philadelphia 33-27. DeSean Jackson ran a 25-yard touchdown while Brent Celek ran for a 28-yarder. Late into the third quarter the Redskins were down 33-7. Eight months to the day of his major knee surgery, RG3 threw a career-high two interceptions. RG3 completed 30 out of 49 passes for 329 yards for 2 interceptions and 2 touchdowns. Eagles' Michael Vick completed 15 out of 25 passes for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Each "Around the NFL" post, I'll focus on four games from each week to focus on. Don't worry, they won't all be featuring New England each week.

Good luck to all teams in Week 2!
